Drummer boy?

At the 12 week appointment, we got to hear Eeny's heartbeat. Webhamster and I have both been relatively relaxed about this second pregnancy, but I sensed a shared moment of heavy tension and the beginnings of quiet panic when we didn't hear the heartbeat for what seemed like a solid half-minute. As my OB moved the Dopplar device around my pelvic girdle, we finally heard those faint sounds that resemble tiny fists banging on metal and the echo thereof.

Eeny's heartbeat definitely sounded slower than when we first heard Cletus's 160+ bpm thumper. That led Webhamster to speculate that Eeny is a boy.

Greasy fair food = baby breakout

Eight adventurers set out on a quest this past Saturday. The Webhamster family, Isabel's Super Secret God-uncle, and the Mays family went in search of the most exotic deep-fried foods, the ugliest lamp (also see the winner), the smelliest farm animals, and the endangered Mulletus americansus. The location: the Kentucky State Fair.

Webhamster was extremely disappointed that he didn't find a single mullet after over five hours at the fair and speculated about global warming's role (maybe it's so hot that the critters are shedding the superfluous hair?).

I am happy to report that, after searching every single exhibit hall and food stand on the midway, on the way out John was finally able to locate a Deep Fried Twinkie stand.

One lesson we learned, was that toddlers, too, may fall victim to the "eat greasy foods, have a greasy face" rule we learned as teenagers battling the zit wars. We let Isabel have a few bites of our funnel cake and drink some of our sugary lemon shake-up. I would swear that she had a pimple on her chin the next day.

A Cletus by any other name...

I don't think we'll ever be able to find a name that rivals Cletus the Fetus, although we did get some fun suggestions from friends: Ziggy the Zygote, Neo-Natalie (or Neo-Nate if a boy?), Webhamster attempting to name the embryo after crispy sweet-and-sour Thai noodles...

I thought since we had the whole Dukes of Hazzard theme started with Cletus the Fetus, perhaps we should go with Enos the Embryo, Eeny for short to make it sound more unisex (Enos, Enid, for example). That still does not sound perfect to me, but alas, one can't have it all. And, it's much better than Roscoe, Boss Hogg, or worst of all, Cooter.
